At TigerLily we always try to have a good time filled with laughter and fun. The Kitchen @ the Hollywood Studio Bar & Grill acts as our “green room.” We @ TigerLily are always running in and out of the kitchen making sure the show is running just the way it should and more often than none some of the coolest funniest and awesome things are happening on stage and off stage simultaneously! You never know who you are going to run into! After 5 plus years TigerLily has become more than a show it’s a place comedians and comedy fans know they can drop by to see some of their favorite people, have a laugh on or off stage and hey just have a good time!
“Tales from the Kitchen: Behind the Curtain @ TigerLily”
Comedy Minglings
**3rd TL of 2012 and the fun keeps happening! thanks to all the people who came out and laughed it up! We love the support! We have some fun line ups planned!
**One of the great things about TigerLily is seeing all the comedians who come by to support. As we run back and forth from the kitchen making sure things run smoothly we love overhearing some of the funniest and weirdest riffs that may or may not make it on stage one day. This week the kitchen was packed with comedians like Paul Danke, Karl Hess, Barry Rothbart, Danny Solomon, Howard Kremer, Ricky Carmona, Tony Sam Tom Sibley just to name a few!
** Also in the kitchen was Tony Sam who will be on the show Jan 30th catching up with pals and zombie-fying all the comedians with his fun new phone ap.
** NY comedians (be it visiting or newly moved to LA) were out in full force stopping by to see pals on the show like Mike Recine, Andy Haynes, Nick Turner and Greg Barris. TigerLily is a great supporter of the NY scene there are a lot of great comedians who will be visiting in the coming months be on the look out for our part 2 guide of who’s visiting to come out next week
**Blaine Capatch is the resident host for the month and has just been the best, he can make the audience feel at home and we love him! There has been talks and request to make Blaine our resident host for as long as we can have him! I think we will be seriously thinking about it!
Caught in the Act

The always hilarious and awesome John Mulaney stopped by to prepare for his Conan performance on Wednesday (which he rocked). Mulaney is a treat to see live and we love when he drops don’t forget watch, DVR , record via vhs if you still have one, his one hour Comedy Central Special “New In Town” premiering Saturday Jan 28th @ 10pm!

TL favorites NY Comedians Greg Barris and Nick Turner play up their “fake” FB feud for the camera. Both fellas are having residencies @ Tiger Lily as well both fellas also are super funny and pretty fantastic! Catch Barris @ TL (Jan 30th, Feb 6th, 13th) Catch Turner the whole month of February!

The lovely JC Coccoli and fellow “Lady of Monday” had a great set and we just love her! As always after TigerLily on Mondays the thing to do is drop by her cool show Keep It Clean @ Public House on Vermont Ave. It’s a Monday Night tradition filled with lovely ladies and laughs!

Co-founder and producer of TL our very own Melinda Hill preps for set while resident MC Blaine Capatch watches in shock and awe!

Brooks Wheelan had a fantastic set where he shared the pros and many cons of using Twitter @ work! Brooks along with TL booker Jazz have a new monthly show For Shame! where comedians reveal the shameful music obsessions of their past and then make fun of the videos in all their ridiculousness! Next show Tuesday Feb 7th @ nerdmelt features Greg Proops, Kumail Nanjiani, Pete Holmes, Jonah Ray + Come on down ! get tixs here http://www.nerdmeltla.com/tickets/index.php?event_id=149

David Huntsberger is definitely a comedian everybody should know. Smart, articulate and hilarious he has an amazing talent to weave together funny characters and stories that touch on controversial topics (religion anyone?) that not only make you laugh but actually enlighten you.in a way you wouldn’t expect at a comedy show. We adore David!

If you ever wondered what it looks like to be a comedy booker, well we all have our quirks and unique routines. For example always need a line up easily available where comedians can peek. Plenty of pens cause no matter how neat you write it changes will be made. Phone to light comedians. Camera to take pics, plenty of gum, but rarely if ever can you sit down for the whole show. What we do love is when comedians doodle on the line up! A thanks to Matt Kirshen for this one! :)

The always grandtastic Sean O’Connor closed the show and amazed the audience with his take on the old pick up a hitchhiker who happens to be a ghost folk lore tale, let’s just say it has something to do with fetishes.

We love when Kumail Nanjiani comes by the show we can always expect a good time and plenty of laughs! If you don’t already you should stop by Wednesdays to catch Kumail and Jonah Ray host the Meltdown show @ nerdmelt ! It is one of our favorites! You can also listen to Kumail and his wonderful wife Emily Gordon discuss video games with awesome guest in their podcast “The Indoor Kids”

For Shame is a show where funny people relive their most embarrassing musical choices from their youth. Watch as they share secret stories about bands they sadly were obsessed with. Then the audience will relive the horror by watching a music video from that artist as the other comedians comment on it as it plays!
For anyone who rocked backwards clothes while trying to “Hang Tough” as they choreographed all the moves to the “Bye, Bye, Bye” video this show is for you! So grab your Hammer pants, your copy of Teen Bop and check your ego at the door : For Shame!!!

Here at TigerLily we try to keep our finger on the pulse of comedy. We love laughing and when someone makes us laugh well it’s set in stone we’re friends for life. It is that time again Pilot Season is on its way and though it is primarily a time for actors to try to make it on the fall TV line up for us LA comedy fans it is one of the most enjoyable times of the year where we finally get a chance to see some of the funniest comedians from across the country perform live in our town!.
Here are a list of some of the brightest comedians out there who will be making their way to LA and onto the TigerLily stage. So enjoy our “Guide to Pilot Season” Part 1.5! You would really be a fool to miss any of these super talented comedians while they are here.
MIKE RECINE

NY comedian Mike Recine’s comedy can be described as honest and we can honestly say he a fantastically funny fella who’s made us rethink the definition of “worst pedophile” and seriously wish TV Exec would listen to his ideas for a more realistic “cash cab”. Mike was recently a New Faces at this past years Montreal Just For Laughs Festival and has been nominated for
Time Out New York’s ‘Joke of the Year’. It’d be a shame to miss out on Mike but lucky fo r us he will be stopping by Tiger Lily Monday Jan 23rd! http://mikerecine.com/
ADAM CAYTON-HOLLAND

Adam Cayton-Holland is not only a Denver based comedian and writer but along with a group of fellow funny comedians is part of Wrist Deep Productions who for years now have been bringing buzz to the Denver Alt Comedy scene with such well renowned shows as the former “Los Comicos Super Hilariosos” and the current “The Grawlix”. Adam has the ability ot always be charmingly hilarious either when he is comparing a comedian’s life to Beyonce’s alter ego or making you want to enlist his grandmother’s southern colloquialism into your own conversations. For example ever wonder what “it’s just the devil beating his wife!” means? Well you’ll have to see Adam live to find that out, and you’ll have that chance when Adam visits Tiger Lily on Feb 6th! http://adamisfreakingoutrightnow.com/

As we run back and forth from the kitchen making sure things run smoothly we love overhearing some of the funniest and weirdest riffs that may or may not make it on stage one day. This week the kitchen was packed with comedians like Joe Mande, Hannibal Buress, Howard Kremer, Steve Agee, The Walsh Brothers, Ron Babcock, Karl Hess, Barry Rothbart, Robert Buscemi just to name a few!
** Also in the kitchen were Ron Babcock & Lindsay Ames discussing a cool new web series about dates they have created. We @ TL were privy to one of the episodes they were filming and gotta say it’s hilarious and features some cool people, believe us you’ll love it!
** TL favorites Barry Rothbart and Pete Holmes discussing the super awesome podcast Holmes puts on “You made it Weird” have a listen http://www.nerdist.com/podcast/you-made-it-weird/ If the question is ever “keep it crunchy!” or keep it crispy!” The answer people will always be “Keep It Crispy!”
**Justin Ian Daniels in residency this month has been killing it on stage, this week he followed comedy genius Dana Gould and wowed the audience with stories of his bitchy cat and had us feeling way more tolerant about the needs of those who are special.
Caught in the Act

We were thrilled to have Hannibal Buress drop by the show, always a treat when he comes by! he had the audience in constant guffaws with a story that made us all rethink any trip to a party in the Hollywood Hills.

TL favorite Rob O’Reilly wowed the crowd with a character/sketch. He played a chauvinistic comedian who ends punchlines with pelvic thrust and always leaves a seat for the father he never knew. Then his “father” (played by Chris Walsh) shows up and well let’s just say it was pretty fantastic!

Resident MC for the month Blaine Capatch and the always awesome Dana Gould stop and pose for the camera while they hang back in the kitchen to catch up and catch the show.

Co-founder and producer of TL our very own Melinda Hill shared a hilarious and surreal story from her trip to Hawaii that involved the image of Sean Penn & Eddie Vedder making dinner.

The lovely Margie Mintz sits pretty in the kitchen while she prepares for her set which reminded everybody how dangerous and scary it was to read Sweet Valley High! Margie also runs a fun show every Sunday night called French Toast @ Taix in Echo Park you should all check it out!

Tommy Johnagin pretty much wowed the crowd with his killer set. If you have yet to see Tommy live then we suggest what’s the deal? You’re definitely missing out

Pete Holmes has the talent to make us laugh always, this time he had the crowd laughing with tears about the absurdity and creepiness of breast milk!

Sean Patton is magic. If anyone was born a headliner it was him he weaves together tales and characters that leave you wanting more while also trying to catch your breathe from laughing so hard, he’s like a safe drug and well we’re hooked!

To give everybody an example of what it looks like to be hanging out in “the kitchen” here are TL friends Robert Buscemi, Chris Walsh and Rye Silverman chatting it up before Rye’s great set!
Thanks to everybody! We’ll see ya Monday!

MATT RUBY

Matt Ruby comes from NY where he co-produces the well recieved stand up show Hot Soup every Sunday @ UCBEast as well as the monthy comedy chat show We’re All Friends Here with another great NY comedian Mark Normand. Ruby is clever not only does he deliver on stage with funny jokes that will make you rethink your use of the word “ghetto” or the logic skills of Christopher Coumbus, his blog Sandpaper Suit http://www.sandpapersuit.com/ is an insightful and thought provoking take on the ins and out of comedy. You all should have a read and a listen, but most of all catch him live @ TigerLily on Monday Jan 16th.
ANDY HAYNES

Andy Haynes is another NY comedian, originally from Seattle who has appeared @ Montreal Just For Laughs Festival as well as Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. We at TL enjoy Haynes cause for one he is fantastically awesome and we love his dry sardonic take on such things as the unexpentancy of Plan B, ‘rule Nazis” and how being vegeterian is pretty mich the least gay thing you can do. Catch him and check for show dates @ www.imandyhaynes.com and plus he will be on TigerLily Jan 23rd
NICK TURNER

Nick Turner or Nicky T as he is known to many also hails from NY and recently made his late nite TV debut on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. He helps produce not one but two awesome comedy shows If You Build It every Saturday @ UCBEast with the lovely Kara Klenk as well as Too Cool For School with Jason Saenz. Turner is hilarious, inviting the audience into a world riddled with odd characters such as a “homeless super” and amusing situations like losing your phone at the bottom of a subway trash can. Iit is his cool everyman stage persona that allows for the audience to relax, laugh and follow him wherever he goes! We have a feeling Nick will be going far and no longer need that fall back job at the “meatball factory.” ;) Nick will be at TigerLily on Jan 23rd and will also be in Residency for the month of February, needless to say we’re looking forward to it!
GREG BARRIS

With all that talented NY comedian Greg Barris has his hands in it is a wonder he has time to sleep. Along with stand up comedy he runs Heart of Darkness, a unqiue comedy/variety/music show that not only makes you laugh, it makes you think as well as tickle your senses! When he isn’t forgiving sins at his awesome show he is also a self proclaimed “Pizzanier” as partner for L’asso a popular pizzaria that recently opened its 2nd incarnation in the East Village, oh and let’s not forget the stickers and T-shirts from Avro Design “Nice Work, Babe”! Seeing Barris live is where you see his unique style shine he’s laid back and equally reflective acting as a rambuctious ringleader taking the audience on a rollercoaster ride to another dimension filled with laughter and good old fashioned fun, cause remember everybody “It’s important to have fun! Catch Greg @ Tiger Lily Jan 23rd, 30th, Feb 6th and be sure to make a reservation for his CD Taping at the UCB on Feb 8th! http://www.gregbarris.com/
