Tales from the Kitchen: Behind the Curtain @ TLily 2/27
At TigerLily we always try to have a good time filled with laughter and fun. The Kitchen @ the Hollywood Studio Bar & Grill acts as our “green room.” We @ TigerLily are always running in and out of the kitchen making sure the show is running just the way it should and more often than none some of the coolest funniest and awesome things are happening on stage and off stage simultaneously! You never know who you are going to run into! After 5 plus years TigerLily has become more than a show it’s a place comedians and comedy fans know they can drop by to see some of their favorite people, have a laugh on or off stage and hey just have a good time!

Comedy Minglings
**One of the fun things about TigerLily is seeing all the comedians who come by to just support the show. Walking thru the kitchen you are sure to hear some of the funniest, oddest riffs/jokes that may or may not make it on stage one day. This week the kitchen had with comedians like Sean O’Connor,Jon Dore, Pete Holmes, Doug Mellard, just to name a few!
**JP Buck one of our favorite people was at the show to check out Kumail’s set as well as another comedians, which we can only assume means this comedian was being considered for Conan and well that comedian is hilarious so fingers crossed!
** Batman was a big source of talk between the comedians, a little before the show a group of comedians performing on the show began a discussion of all the Batman movies. Of course Batman Forever and Batman and Robin did not fair well in their opinion but come on seriously those movies did kind of go over the top. This convo only made us want the new Batman movie to come out already. Also fact more comedians will choose Batman over Superman and no one ever chooses Aquaman…
**Pete Holmes was at the show by chance, not like he hangs out there or anything… ;) It was great to see Pete in the audience bantering with Kumail on stage, they truly are two of our favorites. We don’t know who made it weird, but we do know that Pete’s podcast “You Made it Weird” is fast becoming everyone’s new favorite podcast (hey it is ours) http://www.nerdist.com/podcast/you-made-it-weird/
** We always enjoy when special guests drop by. It is a regular occurrence for comedian Ron Lynch to do a bit we lovingly call “man enters thru curtain” Ron comes in thru the curtain and proceeds to look for a seat or someone while Blaine for the most part ignores him. Ron has shined a flashlight around, moved chairs around, done falling bits and much more. Regulars immediately look forward to it and begin clapping and laughing at the genius that is Lynch. This week he was joined by comedian Craig Anton, which made us smile! Those in the know have been fans of these 2 for years be it there wonderful show “The Idiots” (look it up please) as well as the original hosts along with Brendon Small for the much loved Saturday night show Tomorrow. Going strong for 6+ years Tomorrow is a beyond fun show, you’d be a fool to miss it. Every Saturday Midnight @ the Steve Allen Theatre.
Caught in the Act

TL favorite Kumail Nanjiani stopped by to test out some new material as well run his set for a future appearance on Conan. Kumail shared with us his theory of how Cyan became one of the major Printer colors and why Gary should always, always keep his eyes forward!

Super funny comedian Geoff Tate entertained the crowd revealing the ridiculous and mudance aspect of trying to find a date on the internet. Tate was in town for a bit to tape a stand up segment for the Late Late Show wirh Craig Ferguson, be on the look out for it,

Two of TLs fave comedians Sean O’Connor and Jim Hamilton chat it up in the kitchen. Look for both comedians to perform @ TigerLily in the coming month. Also Jim Hamilton will be taping an album for AST Records April 27th @ Nerdmelt so mark those calendars!

We were lucky to have New York comedian Michael Lawrence visit TigerLily. Mike is hilarious and a real treat to see live this time he had the audience rethinking the definition of Shabbat as well revealing the best heckle of all time.

Chris Fairbanks is one of those people that will make us LOL all the time be it on stage, in conversation, over the phone. He killed it by talking shit, no he didn’t put anyone down he just had us all adding a new fear to our list: A port o potty falling over while you are inside! Chris then devised the hilarious and gut busting way one would go about preparing to fight that fear. Ah Fairbanks we love you! Also it was great to hear a lot of comedians who had not seen him live come up to us and just say how funny he is and well yeah of course!

TigerLily friend and favorite Rob O’Reilly shared with us the perfect cure for Hiccups hint: it may not be what you think! As well made us oddly enough really want to see the mice and rats of NY!

Nick Turner and Johnny Pemberton hang outside talking and taking important text messages. Both fellas had awesome sets. Turner (in residency) talked about his father being a cheerleader and his audition for a show called “DILFs” While Johnny made us all want to see a Southern Lawyer in space and well we can’t stop saying “shando calibre” over and over again!

Comedian Justin Cousson made his TigerLily debut and what a debut it was! It is always fun for us to see emerging talent on the TL stage. He had the crowd laughing at his theory on Batman, what if Bruce Wayne’s parents hadn’t been rich.

Our favorite “comedy” married couple kicking it in the kitchen. Who doesn’t enjoy Emily Gordon and Kumail Nanjiani, we dare you to find anyone, chances are you will not. Emily is the program director at the Nerdist Theater located @ Meltdown Comics, she helps curate all the awesome comedy shows you see there including the weekly awesome Meltdown show hosted by Kumail and Jonah Ray. As well you should all check out Kumail and Emily’s podcast The Indoor Kids

NY comedian Dan St. Germain is incredibly funny with a distinctive voice and style this week he revealed who the real James Taylor is as well as the saddest 3 line sentence ever: “beans is fine.” we are happy to hear he will be visiting LA for a couple months (yeah he will be at TL again soon you can bet on it)
